English Players Ready to Celebrate New Year Honour

 In the New Year Honours, various members of England's Lionesses squad and former cricketer Stuart Broad are being recognized for their contributions to sports.



Millie Bright, England's World Cup captain, receives an OBE, while Mary Earps and Lauren Hemp are awarded MBEs.


Stuart Broad, who retired post-Ashes in July, is appointed a CBE.




Former Leeds and England rugby league players Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield are honored with CBEs for their services to motor neurone disease (MND) awareness, having raised over £8 million for MND charities.


The Lionesses, after their 2022 European Championship victory, reached their first World Cup final in August, with recognition in the New Year Honours for players like Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, and the retired Ellen White.


"I'm so gobsmacked," says Millie Bright, expressing her pride at the unexpected honor.


Other notable honorees include Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps, former Leeds manager Howard Wilkinson, former McLaren CEO Ron Dennis (knighted), and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner (CBE).


In the football world, Peter Shilton is appointed a CBE for services to football and the prevention of gambling harm. Sanjay Bhandari and Troy Townsend of anti-discrimination organization Kick It Out are recognized as MBEs.


The list also includes Maddie Hinch, the GB Olympic champion hockey goalkeeper, Marcus Trescothick, former England cricketer and mental health ambassador, and Hazel Irvine, sports presenter.


The New Year Honours list for sports recognizes various individuals for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
